So now that we’ve talked about cleansers, let’s talk about the next step in your skincare routine. Let’s talk about Exfoliation! SO important!
Let’s highlight why it’s important to implement it in your skincare regimen, how often you should exfoliate and what kind of exfoliants are the most ideal.
Its benefits:
Remove dead skin cells on the stratum corneum (epidermis)
Leave the skin texture softer and smoother.
Increase cellular turnover.
Stimulate blood flow and circulation
Improve products penetration into the epidermis (made them more effective)
TYPE OF EXFOLIATION
Mechanical
Ex: facial brushes or Granular scrubs (jojoba
beads, or other micro-beads). GOOD FOR COMBINATION AND OILY SKIN TYPES.
Chemical
Ex: alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy
acids (BHAS). AHAS are suitable for all skin types. BHA are more appropriate for oily skin type.
Enzymes
Ex: from papaya, pineapple, also botanical. excellent for all skin type, and even better for sensitive and acne-prone skin.
VERY IMPORTANT
Exfoliate your skin maximum twice a week. Over-exfoliating your skin could dehydrate your skin, increase sensitivity, cause breakout, increase irritation and inflammation on the skin.
Also, it is very important to keep in mind that you must avoid using any kind of mechanical exfoliation if you fall into this category:
Sensitive skin
Acne-prone skin with inflamed papule and pastels
Skin with many visible capillaries
Skin medically treated with tretinoin, accutane, or other acne drugs, AHAs or BHAs.
